Aiden Fish

My dear friend Lisa called me over at The Black Swamp Festival (our local townie artsy weekend) to meet her brother and sister in law. We got to talking…and before you knew it, I had signed up to illustrated and create a little book for her brother’s granddaughter. The book is called Aiden Fish and tells a small 6 page tale about their granddaughter, Aiden’s, adventure with a seahorse.

Here’s the final project (which they adored):

Van Gogh

Crayola has done it again.

My son has officially started coloring. We love to spread a huge sheet of coloring paper across the floor (Ikea roll of paper) for him to sit on and walk on as he colors with me. But I have not ever been a big fan of the crayon. Something about the paper with the waxy substance gives me the willies as a texture. But Crayola has captured his heart which has captured mine.

Apple Favors

I am in a wedding this Sunday and full festivities are underway. I put together these autumn wedding favors for the bride; our dresses are apple-green…..so we went with it. Literally.

Surprisingly it took us only 3 hours total to cut, write and pin the leaves to the apples. Best of luck to the newlyweds, Amber and Matt!

Garden Art Show

Birdies. Little ones with really extra long legs. And fabric feathers ready to party.

My mom has a beautiful garden that features two sweet trees: one is for my grandma who passed away as she battled breast cancer; the other is the one we gave away to our guests after they were centerpieces from our wedding day. I love trees and birds and nature.

Her garden is one of a few selected ones in the Old West End of Toledo’s Garden Tours coming this Sunday the 14th. You will find my art throughout the garden to decorate and for purchase. I have been working at it in between caring for my son and being on campus doing ministry. Whew…..here’s a sneak preview of a series….

Lazy Labor Day

Walking down lazy Main Street in Bowling Green this morning was so lovely. I love small-town America on holidays. The traffic is slow and sparse. The coffee shops have lollygaggers in them. The wind was subtle. The sunshine was cozy. Life is sweet. Daddy and Robby enjoyed a moment over coffee at our local bakery for breakfast. Not many plans (when does that happen?) today. Just enjoying the family day. Thanks, Peter McGuire, for all your work for labor rights. The day off (a small representation of all your hard work) is much needed.labor-day.jpg
