The Ladies

We are munching on turkey, stuffing and baby tummies all weekend…yum, yum. All the ladies are pictured here: my sis, mom, my niece and myself. Keira is a sweet, happy loudmouth. You would expect nothing less in our family.

Pumpkin Birds

Intaglio birds. Carving from the outside in. Why not? I like birds with long legs and just had to fashion my orange gourd out of it – thought I’d show you. Fabric lines the body of each birdy. I mentioned it in an October post….

Enjoy your pumpkin pie this week!

Guys and Guitars

Rob cannot wait to teach his boy how to play guitar. He’s convinced Robby will outplay him in no time…

Spinach For Everyone!

For you. For me. For everybody!

How do you get 16 oz of spinach to be yummy for everyone – so much so that your 17 month old asks for it for dinner and breakfast? Spinach Squares! I guarantee that the whole family will enjoy them…..seriously.

Spinach Squares:

1 Cup Flour (could use Whole Wheat flour)

1 Tspn Salt

1 Tspn Baking Soda

2 beaten Eggs

1 cup milk

1/2 cup chopped onion

3 cups cheddar cheese (I like a combo of sharp and mild)

16 ounce pkg frozen spinach (thawed and drained)

Mix all together and place mixture in greased 8 by 11 (or similar) pan. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. Cut into squares and serve warm.

And why not throw in some flax seed while we’re at it? Sure…I think this might be a weekly hit. He wanted this more than Mac and Cheese!

Bed Head

Jessica is Robby’s Tues-Thurs morning sitter while I am on campus. She found him like this and had to record it for all to see:

Adult Play-dough

One of Rob’s recent favorite creative hobbies has been concrete countertops. Or concrete anything. He did ousr with his friend Ryan a couple of years ago when we redid our kitchen from top to bottom.  He just finished some beautiful curved black concrete tops at Madhouse. And then helped his friend Steve finish his counters a few weeks back.

I thought I would shoot a little bit of the process: wet buckets of concrete, latter wire, trowels….you can ask him more. He decided to “read a book on it and then just try it.” Right. I am a hands on, visual learner. None of this read it and then try it business. That’s my man.

Thank-You Lace

Why not? Lace on skirts. Lace on gifts. Lace on paper, sewn and sent as a thank you to some friends for a sweet night out and a backyard farm-fire. I made this little note and thought I’d share. I used a super small typewriter card that was gifted to me and sewed it with the lace….and then added my own “thank you”….

First Real Halloween

Robby had a blast with his Toledo “Ga-Ga’s” (grandma and grandpa) during the Thursday Main Street Halloween candy giveaway in downtown BG. We borrowed a sweet spider costume and he walked up and down the street having no idea he was in a costume or what was going on. 17 months, what a fun age.

I am not a big fan of the celebration of death, fear and ghosts – but I do like honoring the family fun during the daylight with friends and family and making safe memories together. He seemed to like just waling up and down the sidewalk as fast as he could.

We headed to the Gawrons  for Halloween on Friday and had a pumpkin carving contest. Check it out. As usual, we outshot ourselves a little bit with the technicalities of our design – but adding fabric and using linoleum carving tools was fabulous.
