Leggy Birds

My friend Abe recently got married. We’ve been friends for years and I thought a painting would be fitting. He’s tall and so is his lovely bride. I wanted to give them something special and handmade and that had a hint of them in it. These leggy birds did the trick…

First Sledding

We had our first flight on snow 2 weekends ago. Robby reaction? Indifference. He seemed to neither enjoy nor despise the sled-riding (as you Cinci folk say) but just went along with it. We have 2 (count em!) hills for us to go on and this one seemed to have at least 200 kids on it at once. It was crazy. Here’s a sweet smirk during the day…

Steampunk TV

Never heard of steampunk? Me neither. Look it up. It’s hip or something.

In our world – we just steampunked our TV. We finally shoved our big tubed TV in our fireplace (after removing the fake wood from the gas fireplace) since football play-off time is now. But we didn’t want it to be the center of all conversation, attention or feng shui.  So Rob rigged up some copper-pipes and I sewed some fabric and shizam!

Steampunky.

Toddler Tips?

So….the days can get long, right? Anyone with me? He’s up at 7:30 and down for a 1-3 nap. 5 hours open for fun. Then Daddy doesn’t get home until 6pm. Another 3 hours. And it’s winter. What do you do with your 19 month old?

-Library, errands, playing, making stuff, play-dates…..

Here’s our mobile we made for above his bed on a very snowy, cold afternoon. He colored on the lion which was a really nice touch. Would love your ideas…..

Daddy Boots

One of Robby’s favorite moves is strutting his stuff in “Daddy’s Boos” after he goes to work. This has become a regular toy and many minutes of entertainment. You can see he wants to be just like dad already.

Festivity Blues

It’s all over.

The parties. The lights. The common “Merry Christmas” everywhere you go. The anticipation. The Birth. The goat cheese, popcorn and eggnog. The Over the Rhine Christmas show (details to come). The traveling.

I ran across this photo as I was cataloguing this Christmas season. Let’s always be festive. Want to? Me too.

Good thing my hope is bigger than this. Else I’d be sunk for February.

Christmas Train

Whew! We feel like we just stepped off a long train ride this Christmas. We traveled to Cincinnati, had Christmas and a funeral (Aunt Peggy Seiffert) and then kept traveling on to Indianapolis for the annual Christmas Conference with 2000 college students. What a ride. And we still have Toledo Christmas to go.

But we walked in the door and Robby wanted us to set up his train in front of the Christmas tree. It was one of those moments every dad dreams of with his son; the excitement, the oooh’s and ahhhh’s from Robby and the tree in the background made my husband teary as we soaked in the scene.

Happy New Year. May it be full of new life, redemption and a thawing of the chilled places of the heart.
