Wedding Coordinator 101

This is not a job for the faint of heart, the timid or the pushovers.

A wedding coordinator calls for an assertive, winning other’s over as you go, positive and congenial-servant gal…..and I loved every minute of it last night!

Yesterday I had the privilege to try my hands at being a Wedding Coordinator for the Colarusso/Schaff wedding…..you know the gig: getting g-ma and g-pa down the aisles without tripping or fainting, lining everyone up and sending them down well-timed to music, making sure the flower girl doesn’t turn around and run right back (it was close), assuring the bride that her last minute details are completely and fully taken care of, moving people to grab drinks until food is ready, checking in multiple times with bride, groom and mother of the bride to see about timing of prayer, toasts, cake-cutting, photos….

Whaddaday.

I realized a few things:

1. I like making people feel really loved and special on a big, big covenantal day. It felt like a social sport of sorts. Being volleyed back and forth between family members, caterers, music – all with a smile and a make-it-happen attitude.

2.  I like making things happen, making quick decisions (guessing, mostly, but still very fun) and doing it all in a pretty dress.

3.  I like helping people laugh at themselves in the face of a serious ceremonial day. I like the challenge of making it all work. And I like that it is short-lived. I can do all of that for a few hours….and then crash.

4.  I could do this again. I think. Know anyone who needs a budding Wedding Coordinator? (And, I think you could throw in Wedding Decorator, too…..I whipped some things together on the fly that morning…..snazzed it up.)

Motherhood and Summer: A Perfect Mix

I cannot get over how much fun I am having raising my son this summer. It’s been so lovely as we’ve been active, exploring, learning, growing….I just don’t want it to end! Robby is at the perfect age for zoo play (Nature’s Neighborhood is amazing!) and beach fun. We hit the northcoast this week (East Harbor), the zoo and 577 Foundation. We’ve been on countless bike rides and ice cream jaunts…I highly recommend motherhood.

I just told a friend who is about to burst with a beautiful babe that each day, from birth, motherhood just gets better. Do you agree, if you are one? Let’s celebrate motherhood.

Martha and Amy – Martha is back in Ohio. I think I am still in shock. :)

Secret Garden

We stumbled upon this just 10 minutes away….summer has tons of secret gardens to explore. Can you just smell ‘em?

A night on the boat…

We had some friends invite us to a night on their boat for dinner and a ride. We headed out from Port Clinton on Thursday towards Kelly’s Island and made a good, beautiful loop around Lake Erie. My boys were loving the view from the helm. Any boat rides for you this summer?

Red, White and Boom

What a lovely 4th of July we had and continue to have. We are in Columbus at one of my favorite homes in the world. I think I can confidently say that. Our friend Marco came in from Manhattan and we have feasted on blue cheese burgers, Graeter’s icecream (black raspberry chip, anyone? tough choice, coconut chip?), Skyline, etc. Yummy.

Paul, our nephew, was in the Dublin Parade with his soccer team and cheered him on –  we felt very American.  Last night, we hit a Spanish restaurant (Barcelona) sans kiddos and enjoyed a pretty spicy paella and a good cocktail. Fireworks followed.

Recalling all the cities I have been on the fourth, I came up with this list over the years: Guadalajara, Azerbaijan, Cincinatti, Bowling Green, Virginia Beach, Toledo, Ocean City….how about you?
