Session 5

Recently I was sitting on my counselor’s couch, telling her about the anxiety that happens regarding the opinions of others and my identity. And she asked me, “What outcome would you like to have when it comes to the relationship of other people’s opinions and your identity?” And I told her that when an opinion comes my way about who I am—I would be able to let it pass by me, instead of taking it and carrying it around with me all day or week or year. She smiled. And said, “Something you can work on is making God’s opinions higher than everyone else’s..and then letting his opinions quiet all the others.” Making God’s opinions higher—that’s a great assignment when we are starved for identity. An identity that doesn’t shift or change.

So how do we actually do that? How do we focus on God’s opinions, leave our identity to Him, and quiet all the other voices around us? That’s what this week is all about.
